A banner is a flag or other piece of cloth, pvc or flexible printing media bearing a symbol,
logo, slogan or other message. Banner-making is an ancient craft.
The word derives from French word "bannière" and late Latin bandum, a cloth out of which a flag is made (Latin: banderia, Italian: bandiera, Portuguese: bandeira, Spanish: bandera). The German language developed the word to mean an official edict or proclamation and since such written orders often prohibited some form of human activity, bandum assumed the meaning of a ban, control, interdict or excommunication. Banns has the same origin meaning an official proclamation, and abandon means to change loyalty or disobey orders, semantically "to leave the cloth or flag". Ref. Wikipedia

BANNER MATERIAL (PVC)
The most commonly used material is a heavy weight vinyl technically known as PVC. The weights of the different banner substrates range from as light as 9 ounces to as heavy as 22 ounces per square yard, and may be double- or single-sided. Grommets can also be added in order to facilitate hanging of the banner. Banner hem tapes are also used to protect the lamination of the banner, fasten the hems neatly, and adhere to various surfaces.

BLOCK-OUT BANNERS (DOUBLE SIDED)
When you need your vinyl banners to be interpreted from each side of your sign, double sided printing is what you need. Advertising with double sided banners is for areas where your banner could be a free standing advertisement that could be seen from both directions. If you are simply hanging your banner on the side of a building, for example, you would not need a 2 sided sign, but if your potential viewing audience will be able to see your sign from both angles, double sided banners are essential.

Mesh banners are a great solution for windy locations instead of using wind slits which may cause your banner to tear out. Mesh banners are printed on a polyester material that allows the air to blow through. There are criss crossed fibers that you can see through to some extent, but it still has a printable surface.
